I.  Introduction

A. Introductions of trainers/research team and staff

B. Overview of what will be covered today

C. Why the reassessment instrument was developed

1)     Importance of reassessing youth: we expect their behavior to change, especially due to supervision

2)     To obtain an updated measure of a youth’s risk to offend

3)     To include response to supervision, sanctions, and treatment

4)     To support a focus on building on strengths (protective factors)

D. When the reassessment should be used

1) When there are new referrals

2) When a youth has completed most of case plan objectives

3) Complete a reassessment based on local policy (every 4-6 months)

E. How will the assessment be used?

1)     To determine level of supervision

2)     To monitor and update the case/service plan

F. Description of pilot test

1)     Beta tests were conducted prior to implementing reassessment in pilot sites

2)     Testing reassessment occurred through a pilot in four counties (Multnomah, Yamhill, Josephine, and Jefferson)

3)     78 staff trained, 17 staff responded to User Survey, had conducted ave. of 20 reassessments each

4)     Summary of results of User Survey

II. Presentation

A. Accessing the reassessment: (see brief steps on Local and Technical Decision Guidelines handout)

B.  Go through reassessment instructions and help items; point out automatic links (refer to Local and Technical Decision Guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions)

1)     Building and basing on

2)     Linking an assessment

3)     Description of data links

4)     Severity scores

5)     Risk levels (handout)

6)     Completion date

7)     Lock date – data will not be used unless reassessment is locked.

C. Release date: 10/24/05

There may be a few minor changes to the tool (e.g., a few questions may have changes in their response options), based on pilot test feedback and final Steering Committee decision, but the reassessment will look essentially the same as the version you are using today.

D. Review using the results of the reassessment for updating case/service plan

1)     Look at updated risk classification to determine if higher or lower level of supervision is needed

2)     Determine if additional, new or revised treatment or skill building services are needed or if any services are no longer needed

3)     Determine if there is a need for sanctions

E. Difference between the Reassessment and the Interim Review

III. Review Performance Objectives

PO#1  Identify reasons for conducting a JCP reassessment

PO#2  Accurately and reliably complete a JCP reassessment

PO#3 Use information from the reassessment in a case plan

IV. Application (practice)

Each staff person (or group) selects a sample assessment in JJIS, updates the JCP assessment, and completes the reassessment addendum.
