Model Policy on Employee Training

Policy:

Employees who may have contact with residents of juvenile detention will receive training on PREA standards and policies. Staff will receive initial PREA training, refresher training every two years, and information on current related policies in years in which they do not receive training. Training topics include:

Procedures:

All new employees in juvenile detention receive initial training as part of orientation within the first (time frame) of employment and in accord with Oregon PREA curriculum. Oregon selects a team of master trainers based on demonstrated training skills and regional representation. The master trainers are responsible for review and maintenance of the training curriculum and related materials, and for a train-the-trainers program offered periodically to ensure capacity for staff training in detention facilities across Oregon. Training includes evaluation processes and documentation of training. Sample forms are provided.
